Imperfection
Imperfection is a theme for Muse 3.0 Showcase which presents the manifestation of the beauty of imperfection. The idea of imperfection is inspired from the concept of Wabi- Sabi, an aesthetic that derived from traditional Japanese art. Beauty has always been related to the idea of perfection in form, composition, colour and other elements and principles of art which can be seen on the accurate capture of form and proportion in portrait painting, the accuracy of scale and perspective in architecture drawing or a well symmetrical balance in ceramic pot making, as defined in the Western Art. Wabi- Sabi on the contrary characterizes its art in asymmetry, roughness, intimacy and the appreciation of natural objects and the forces of nature. Wabi- Sabi tend to appreciate beauty that is “imperfect, incomplete and impermanent.” Thus, “Imperfection” presents to you a collection of works from ICAD artists and designers that manifest beauty based on their understanding on the concept of Wabi- Sabi. It speaks about the beauty of imperfection as a way of looking into reality in art through concept, visual language, medium and material to provide a wider and various perspective on beauty itself. It may adjust, speculate or widen the definition and appreciation of imperfect beauty among us.
"There is a kind of beauty in imperfection."- Conrad Hall.
